The 12 Communities of Christmas
By Bryan Curtiss
This December, DJBC Adventures, the Tumblr blog of The DJBC Happy Hour will take you through 12 Communities of Christmas in the final month of the Bicentennial year of the City of Columbus and some of the surrounding suburbs.
COMMUNITY # 2: Grove City:
The next stop on the 12 Communities of Christmas took me to the town of Grove City. Since I don’t have a car, the bus route to Grove City only ran on an hour on the weekends. But, when I got there, they were putting the finishing touches on the Winter Lights Festival in the Town Center of Grove City, which is along Broadway (US 62/State Route 3) in the Town Center (Downtown District) of Grove City.

The Winter Lights Parade is the big celebration in Grove City to ring in the holiday season. The parade starts at the Park Street Intermediate School (about a few blocks east from Broadway) and goes through the Town Center District and then back to the school.

Looking for something at the Winter Lights Celebration? This should help you find your way through the Winter Lights.
Photo # 3: Mistletoe Market:
The Mistletoe Market was part of the Winter Lights Celebration, although it was a day-long event. The Mistletoe Market that Grove City did was reminiscent of the Christkindl Markets in European countries, mainly Germany.
Photo # 4: Carolers:
Dickensian Carolers on display inside the Grove City Welcome Center and Museum during the day as part of the Welcome Center’s holiday decorations.
Photo # 5: Letters to Santa:
This is where kids could send their letters off to the North Pole with a list of things that they want for Christmas.
Photo # 6: The Christmas Tree:
This is the Christmas Tree of Grove City, right outside of the City Hall, right next to a Toy Soldier. The Tree was decorated with ornaments dedicated to local groups in the Grove City area.
Photo # 7: The Tree Inside of City Hall:
The Statehouse has not one but two trees- one near the corner of Broad and High Streets (pictured in the slideshow), and the other near the corner of High and State Streets, across from the Ohio Theatre.
Photo # 8: Christmas Inside of City Hall:
Inside of City Hall, there were performers, as well as an art show inside of City Hall in Grove City as part of the Mistletoe Market.
Photo # 9: The Sun Setting On City Hall
The sun setting in Grove City, as Mistletoe Market makes way for those Winter Lights and the Winter Lights Parade in the Grove City Town Center District.
Photo # 10: Riding the Sleigh:
This sleigh, right next to one of Grove City’s historic murals, was a good place for a photo-op, as Santa would possibly stop by during the Winter Lights Festivities.
